I'm sinking further down the jewelry rabbit hole. I saw some videos oof people cutting their own gemstones and I thought to myself, "Yes, this is it, this is what will fix my whole life."
After a particularly good month in sales (holiday season is no joke as a jeweler), I bought a faceting machine. Now, this is your most generic and dare i say, "low quality" faceting machine you can get at the moment, but i decided on this one simply because I knew it was going to be the beater car you get a 16 year old when they first learn to drive. Since purchasing, I've slowly been trying and failing, but sometimes succeeding!

My first attempts were questionable
I had to delve into the geometric world of crystals / minerals. This is labradorite, it's popular due to the flash of color that can be seen along one of its axis.
Side note: if cut "wrong" (not along the correct axis) it just becomes a grey pebble :D
I made lots of beautiful grey pebbles to begin with.
This is an example of the flash I mentioned earlier. Looks like the wing of a butterfly!
I branched out to different gemstones! Tourmaline (my favorite gem to cut atm), amethyst, lowwwwww quality emerald, some citrine, garnet.
Example of green tourmaline I cut, set in sterling silver earring I fabricated!
Same story as above, except swap tourmaline for citrine!
